A Hundred Years of Solitude: Chapter Summaries and Analysis
1. Chapter
Macondo was a village of José Arcadio Buendía, a resident with great imagination, married Ursula Iguarán, who used to buy inventions to Melquiades, the ringleader of a group of Gypsies who appeared once a year novelty gadgets. Among the items he bought were a magnet to search for gold , a magnifying glass to which he intended to give military applications, maps and navigational instruments Portuguese. Ursula to learn was in search, José Arcadio and Aureliano took over new daughter, named Amaranta. At five months, Ursula returned without his son but with people from other villages.
3. Chapter
Ursula and José Arcadio accepted the son of Pilar Veal reluctantly. He was called Arcadio. The children in the house were guarded by the Visitation, an Indian who had arrived in Macondo fleeing a plague of insomnia. Roma returned, but there was no sign of José Arcadio. Macondo also reached some fur traders that led to the Buendía house a girl and aletter, the letter was from someone who knew them and asked Ursula and Jose Arcadio who admitted because it was family far away and had no parents. They named Rebecca, is brought to the village sleeping sickness, which affected in a short time the whole village, but thanks to a formula of Melquiades could cure.

4. Chapter

Aureliano and Remedios Moscote were married by Father Nicanor. 6. Chapter

7. Chapter
The war ended in May, Colonel Aureliano and Gerineldo Márquez (his man of confidence) were taken prisoner. Aureliano was condemned to death and his last wish was to die in Macondo. When preparing to shoot José Arcadio appeared with a shotgun and got his release. Captain Roque Carnicero (captain of the firing squad) and six men tried to save General Victorio Medina liberal, but when they arrived they had already shot.
Colonel Aureliano he raised an army and declared war on the regime. He was named head of the revolutionary forces. Gerineldo Aureliano Martinez was appointed by civil and military leader of Macondo. Amaranta Gerineldo told him their intention to marry her, but refused Amaranta. 8. Chapter

Aureliano José is killed by Captain Aquiles Ricardo conservative in the middle of the street.
9. Chapter
Gerineldo Marquez again be rejected by Amaranta. Meanwhile Aureliano returns to Macondo. When Aureliano went to deliver the personal property of genl. Moncada his widow, burned and looted the casa.Teofílo Vargas had taken over the central command and Aureliano liberal proposal of a captain decides to kill him to seize power . But due to remorse decides to kill the captain that he had proposed. Aureliano is visited by a commissioner of his party which proposes reforms contrary to the thinking liberal, but still accept them. Gerineldo interpreted the agreement as a betrayal and was sentenced to death for his words. After the intervention of Ursula, Aureliano correcting and try to end the war by signing the surrender. Then attempt to commit suicide but was saved.
10. Chapter
Arcadio and Santa Sofía de la Piedad had twins. One was Aureliano II, who married and fathered Fernanda del Carpio Jose Arcadio. The other was Jose Arcadio II. The hobbies of the two brothers were very different, José Arcadio II was dedicated to raising fighting cocks and Aureliano II is devoted first to read books and manuscripts and then to play the accordion.Without knowing the twins shared the same woman, Petra Cotes, but was Aureliano II who had a child with her who was raised by Ursula to make it cure in the future.
