Book, Film & Restaurant Review: Madrid & Beyond
Book Review: “Al final del camino”
Last summer, I read a really nice and interesting book titled “Al final del camino” by the Spanish writer Lucía Gabildo.
The book tells the story of four different people: Gloria, a young woman who paints fantastically and works cleaning in an office by night; her neighbor Pablo, a real gentleman who lives in a big apartment and sells postcards in a museum; Fran, Pablo’s tenant and an excellent cook; and Fran’s grandmother, Paula, who lives in an old people’s home. All of them are alone and a bit depressed.
The story takes place in Madrid, a lovely city, and describes the relationship between them as they begin living together in Pablo’s apartment under different circumstances. Their lives change as they establish a gorgeous friendship and discover happiness. The ending is very exciting and memorable.
I recently saw the film version, but I prefer the book; it’s better. If you like a sensitive story, you’ll love it.
Film Review: Schindler’s List (1993)
Schindler’s List is a 1993 American film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film follows Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who saved more than a thousand, mostly Jewish, refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories during World War II.
It stars Liam Neeson as Schindler and features the Schindlerjuden (Schindler’s Jews). Principal photography took place in Krakow over 72 days in 1993, and Spielberg shot in black and white.
This film shows the horrors of war and the good people that existed within it. In my opinion, it’s the film that best shows us the suffering and pain of the Jews in World War II. This is my favorite movie, and I think everyone should see it once in their life.
Restaurant Recommendation: Arde, Madrid
If I had to recommend a popular restaurant in Madrid, I would recommend Arde. The restaurant is located on Gran Vía, a very long street near the city center.
The local is big, and the decoration is Harry Potter-themed. On the wall, there is a big picture of Hogwarts School. There are the flags of Hogwarts teams, and over the door, there is a big ticket of the Hogwarts Express. There are a lot of table games. You can go there for lunch or have a snack. If you go for lunch, you can eat pasta, salads, hamburgers, or sandwiches.
I hope you can go someday!
Book Review: The Life of William Shakespeare
This year, I read a really nice and interesting book titled “The Life and Times of William Shakespeare” by Jill Alexander.
The book tells the story of Shakespeare’s life. He was born in 1564 and was an English writer, poet, and playwright. Four centuries after his birth, he remains one of the most significant names in universal literature and the most important writer in the English language. It also deals with the history and the characters of the time.
I recently saw the film version, but I prefer the book; it’s better. If you like a sensitive story, you’ll love it.
