Climate Change Denial: A Critical Response
Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to an article in Saturday’s edition of your newspaper. I strongly disagree with the headline stating that the strange weather we are experiencing is not caused by human activity.
First, it is obvious that we live in a universe in constant change and movement, and that throughout the history and prehistory of our planet, there have been changes. We do not know exactly at what point we should expect a dramatic change, or if the change is so gradual that it would be imperceptible.
Secondly, studies show that approximately every 12,000 years, there are changes in the Earth’s weather, and that we are currently living in the time of change. However, we are aware of the powerful influence of wealthy industrialists who deny that their activities are causing irreversible damage to the environment.
Finally, nature is prepared for its changes; it has always made them without human intervention. For millions of years, the Earth has evolved without the unnecessary and harmful action of humans. If we do not stop, the natural changes of the Earth’s cycle, together with the actions of wealthy industrialists and reckless consumers, are going to extinguish all living things on this planet in just a few more years.
Kind regards,
The Open House: A Culinary Gem
The ‘Open House’ is a restaurant situated in the heart of a small village, nestled between three national forests and close to Chantilly, the horse capital city. It is the favorite hangout place for people from the polo, horse racing, and golf worlds. As you enter, you are welcomed by a magnificent setting, a delightful marriage of antique cut stones and the luxuries of modernity. Sitting at any table, you have a wonderful view of the workshop-like kitchen, where you can see the chefs working. For those waiting for a table, there is a cozy lounge with aged leather armchairs and pictures of polo players displayed on the walls.
The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had the white asparagus accompanied by a mousseline sauce and poached eggs, while my friend tried the zucchini carpaccio served with sundried tomatoes and a mozzarella strudel. They were exquisite. The main course consisted of a risotto with scallops cooked in cream and a cassolette of coley with mussels, which really thrilled us. It was all followed by a delicious apple pie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. All the products were fresh, and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also caters to all tastes by providing a large selection of the best wines of the region, which are pricey but worth sampling. What a pity that the service does not accompany the high quality of the cooking! You can hardly get a smile out of the waitresses. Thankfully, the owner and hostess, a middle-aged charming woman, is always around, willing to exchange some kind words with all her clients. Despite the high price of the food and the not-so-attentive waiters’ service, I highly recommend going to the Open House restaurant.
Match Report: A Great Team Effort
Today’s game was a little frustrating in that when we got into an attacking position, the opposition would simply run the ball out over the goal line for yet another goal kick. However, the positives of the game were how well the team played. With both Christos and Michael unable to attend, we were not at full strength and, at times, were run off our feet. Will was the first player to take on the opposition with bustling tackles and driving kicks, which cleared the ball from out of the center of the players and up the field. Sean was solid in defense, while Daniel and Luke were cutting through the opposition at every opportunity. Liam and Cameron tussled in the middle to push the ball forward. The second half saw us have a number of shots that just missed, with Sean, Daniel, Liam, and Will all having a crack at scoring. Cameron and Luke kept controlling the center of the field, feeding the ball up to Sean. A great effort, boys!
The Dog: Man’s Loyal Companion
The dog is a domestic animal and a loving friend of humans. It guards the house, showing respect to its master, and can smell its master from afar. It is a four-footed animal. Dogs come in many kinds: bulldogs, greyhounds, bloodhounds, lapdogs, etc. It has sharp teeth, four legs, a tail, and straight ears. It is very useful in catching thieves and criminals due to its powerful sense of hearing and smelling. Each dog has a different nose print. People love dogs for their noble service.
Dogs eat rice, bread, fish, meat, and other edibles. The dog is an omnivorous animal. They are intelligent and faithful to their master. They can be trained well. Intelligent dogs are trained and used by the police or army to smell the traces of criminals and also in investigation work, either indoors or outdoors. In some families, a dog is treated as a dear pet and regarded as one of the family members. Small dogs are tamed and loved as darlings in the family, and the bigger dogs are strong enough to fight thieves and robbers. I love dogs very much. Dogs are not only animals but also pets, friends, and investigators. Investigation departments keep dogs as security agents to find the critical solution to a problem. They are trained so cleverly that they are called smart animals. Dogs are also kept as pets in homes as friends. People love to keep dogs as they are very loyal to their masters. They serve their purpose selflessly. They are ready to sacrifice their lives to save their master’s life, but some people don’t value dogs. But dogs are really loyal animals on Earth.
