Developing Key Competences Through Social Tasks

Social Task: Social tasks are didactic proposals designed to develop key competences. These tasks are experience-based, allowing pupils to learn through experience. We will evaluate the social task with rubrics. The social task is based on a project comprising the following sections: Introduction, Description of the task, Objectives, Content, Context, Key competences, Resources, and Products.

Key Competences

Linguistic Communication

It deals with the functional control of a foreign language.

  • Awareness: language in use and reflection about the language depending on the ages.
  • Ability: understand and be understood both orally and in writing.
  • Attitude: development of a positive attitude towards languages

Example: Write about you and friends.

Digital Competence

It deals with the use of ICT.

  • Awareness: to be conscious that the use of ICT contributes to the learning of English.
  • Ability: to look for and get electronic information.
  • Attitude: responsible use of ICT

Example: Write a message to your best friend in London. Use email for that.

Learning to Learn

It deals with the awareness of the learning progress; it could be on your own or with others. To be aware of the way to learn and reflect about it.

  • Ability to dedicate time and effort to learn and reflect about what you have learnt.
  • Attitude: to be positive towards self-motivation

Example: Activities which we learn things with concepts that I already know. Or activities which we work with the English book.

Social and Civic Competence

It deals with the development of social relationships and, at the same time, the gradual growth of a supporting and responsible citizenship.

  • Awareness of the different cultures that surround us.
  • Ability for multicultural dialogue.
  • Positive attitude towards other cultures and countries (emigration and immigration)

Example: Read about other countries.

Initiative and Entrepreneurship

It deals with the acquisition of autonomy in the process of learning and the development of taking initiatives.

  • Awareness of the need for autonomous study.
  • Ability to work alone and in cooperation.
  • Attitude: to be positive towards taking decisions and working with others

Example: Activities which we work during the unit to evaluate themselves.

Artistic and Cultural Competence

It deals with the development of creativity and the liking and enjoyment of music and art.

  • To be aware of the different cultural elements: music, art, literature.
  • Ability for artistic expressions.
  • Attitude: to be positive towards the cultural diversity

Example: Sing a song.

Multiple Intelligences

Verbal Linguistic Intelligence

It is the ability to manage and structure the meanings and functions of words and language. Pupils develop this intelligence with all activities in the English class.

Indicators:

  • To compose tales, stories.
  • To have good vocabulary
  • To have good memory for names.
  • To Interact with peers and understands

Logical Mathematical Intelligence

It is the ability to calculations, numerical reasoning, and ability to solve logic problems

Indicators:

  • To perform mental calculations quickly
  • To execute strategy games like chess
  • To solve problems using logic

Activity: 3rd and 4th of Primary. The pupils develop this intelligence with games or tangram like chess and doing mathematical problems

Visual Spatial Intelligence

It is the ability to recognize and to process visual images, reasoning about space and its dimensions.

Indicators:

  • To read with ease maps, diagrams.
  • To enjoy the TV and film pictures
  • To build three-dimensional representations
  • To enjoy the picture reading

Activity: 6th year My sporty classmate: Write a text about a sporty classmate. Don’t write his/her name. Let your classmates guess

Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence

It is the ability to use the body movements as a way of self-expression. This intelligence supposes great coordination. All sport professionals usually have this intelligence.

Indicators:

  • To like to arm and disarm objects.
  • To have good coordination.
  • To know how to express with his/ her body.

Activity: 5th year Simon says

Musical Intelligence

The musical intelligence is the Ability to express themselves through musical forms.

Indicators:

  • Interest in musical instruments
  • Remember the melodies of songs
  • Take good musical rhythm

Activity: 1st Cycle English children’s songs and stories in English with lyrics to learn English

Naturalistic Intelligence

Is the skill that makes to perceive the relations between species and object groups.

Indicators:

  • The pupil likes to observe nature. (Animals, plants, stars, etc.)
  • To respect the environment.
  • To enjoy the science class.
