Digital Time Capsules

a) To create a time capsule in the form of a website with multimedia information and digital resources that reflect what life is like for people in your age group today.

b) Your completed website will be locked away for ten years until another group of students of your age can open it and look at how life might have changed.

Understanding HTML

  1. What is HTML Code? What do the letters HTML Stand for? (Pg. 45)

a) HTML is a code for web pages. This code provides the instructions for your browser to display the web page.

b) HTML: HyperText Markup Language

Opening HTML Files

  1. What program do you open HTML Files with? (Pg. 61) (Generic name and Brand names)

A web browser. Software that can be used in any machine to open web pages.

Examples: Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Etc.

Website Evaluation Criteria

  1. The evaluation criteria for a website, COCOA UP, stands for Coverage, Objectivity, Currency, Origin, Accuracy, Usability and Purpose. Tell me what any 3 of them mean? (Pg. 46)
  • Coverage: Does the website cover the right information for your research?
  • Objectivity: Factual sites are reliable. Websites which are biased are mostly not objective.
  • Currency: Is the website up to date? This is important for accuracy.
  • Origin: Who created the website? Are they reliable?
  • Accuracy: Does the website generally seem accurate?
  • Usability: Is it easy to use?
  • Purpose: Is the purpose of the website to inform, entertain, or persuade?

Modifying a Website Template

  1. What are the things you had to modify in the Excel High School website you used for a template? (Pg 54 to 59).

Name of School, Logo Image, Add the Ian Pearson video about the future, Add your own text to describe the video, change colors, add hyperlinks and Anchors, insert a countdown tool, Insert other media elements.

WYSIWYG Editors

  1. Why is WebPlus WYSIWYG? (Pg. 51, Pg. 53, Pg 58.)

WYSIWYG is an acronym that means What You See Is What You Get. When you are inserting items in the website and editing its contents, the final published result will be almost exactly as what you are seeing.

Website Media Elements

  1. What are media elements on websites? Tell me some of the ones you have used (Pg. 57)

a ) Media elements are the features that can be added to web pages to make them more interesting, dynamic, or interactive.

b) These include: Web counters, Navigation Bars, Photo Galleries, Marquee Text, Animated GIFs, Video, Sounds, etc.

Hyperlinks and Anchors

  1. What are Hyperlinks? And Anchors? (Pg. 57 Can I do this and activity 3)

a) A Hyperlink is a reference to data that the reader can directly follow.

b) An anchor hyperlink is a link bound to a portion of a document.

Web Page Publishing

  1. What places can web pages be published to? (Pg. 61) (The book gives 3 places)

a) To the internet so they can be viewed on the World Wide Web. A Server permanently connected.

b) To a local network – an Intranet. Only the people connected to it can view it.

c) To your hard drive of a PC or laptop. Can only be viewed in that computer.

Success Criteria: CHIPS

  1. The Success criteria CHIPS stands for Constructive, Honest, Improvement, Proof, Specific. Tell me what any 4 of them mean? (Pg. 65)
  • Constructive: If you didn’t like something or it didn’t work, say so, but say how it could be improved.
  • Honest: Include things that didn’t work. You will get credit for identifying a problem and proposing a solution.
  • Improvement: Always consider what you would do to overcome problems and improve your work.
  • Proof: If something is successful, give evidence in the form of specific examples.
  • Specific: General points will not help anyone improve. You need to say exactly what was successful and what could be improved.
