Enhancing Company Organization: A Quality-Focused Approach
Quality of Company Organization
The main objective of a company should be the quality of its products and services. To achieve this, it must organize the human and technical factors affecting this objective. These factors are controlled so that, based on customer needs, we can reduce, prevent, and, if possible, eliminate the deficiencies that affect our quality process.
Company Organization
A company must be organized following a policy of independence in the following functional areas. Therefore, we should follow this type of organization.
Quality Planning
Quality planning is the first phase in developing quality management. In planning the quality function, we develop a set of actions with a single purpose: quality control within the company.
ISO 9000
ISO 9000 defines quality management as “an aspect of the overall management function that determines and implements the quality policy.”
- The quality planning includes 3 main activities:
- Defining the quality policy
- Building targets
- Establishing actions to achieve stated goals
- During the planning of quality, it is helpful to practice answering the following questions:
- WHAT? Meaning of quality in the proposed area
- WHY? Potential opportunities for quality
- WHO? To fix responsibility and functions to implement the quality
- HOW? To develop quality media
- WHEN? Urgency of this action or planning scheme
Planning Stages for Quality
To plan for quality in a certain product or service, we will firstly analyze the improvement needed to optimize it, set the standard and the organization and means to achieve them, and then we will follow the same to verify if there is deviation with respect to what was planned.
For this, we can establish the following stages:
- Identify who the customers are
- Determine their needs
- Translate their needs into our language
- Develop a product that meets their needs
- Optimize the characteristics in a way that will satisfy both customer needs and company requirements
- Develop the process capable of producing the product
- Optimize the process
- Show that the process can produce the product under operating conditions
- Transmit the process to the operating forces
Once the process is planned, the company should have provision for adequate resources to implement quality policies and objectives established. Key resources to consider include:
- Human resources and specialists needed to achieve the goal
- Equipment necessary for the design and development
- Equipment necessary for the production
- Equipment necessary for the inspection, testing, and examination
Management of Internal Quality
Quality in Product Design
Based on a market survey, the quality requirements for the product or service are established. The statistical study will give us a schematic description regarding the needs of customers, which provides the basis for further design work.
This should be reported:
- Features and Benefits
- Sensory characteristics
- Configuration, size, and elements’ disposal
- Rules and regulations
- Packaging conditions
- Assurance of product quality
Summing up, the product design is done to meet the needs of a client, and for this:
- We must know the customer needs
- Design the product or service to cover those needs
- Make the product according to this design
The design quality is the degree to which design specifications meet the expectations of consumers. The design and development of a product means 2 things:
- Project definition
Process Capability
A process is a sequence of activities that add value in order to achieve a particular result. For this test, we need to ensure that the process produces in accordance with the specifications for the product. Operations are controlled to ensure compliance with basic specifications. The specification of capacity to process aims to measure this.
