Enhancing English Skills: A Practical Approach

1. Contribution to Competencies

The main idea of this session is to work on competencies that allow students to adapt to new situations in English and learn how to interact in different kinds of situations. That being said, the main dimensions to take into account will be oral communication for the English area and the…

2. Teaching Objectives

The objectives that we want the students to achieve are broken down into two categories: those for English and those for…

English Subject:

  • Vocabulary: Students know the vocabulary related to…
  • Communication: Using English, students can express their ideas correctly, introducing in their sentences the vocabulary that they learned along the UD.
  • Comprehension: Students understand what their classmates express in English.

3. Learning Outcomes

  • Content: In these sessions, we want the students to know how to express or identify… and talk more in English and understand what we want to explain to them.
  • Cognition: Students will be able to understand the importance of the… more English vocabulary, specifically from this subject.
  • Culture: Students will be able to interpret…

These three aspects that we want as a result of sessions are global for the whole group, but I am aware that not all children have the same level or abilities.

Communication:

  • Language of: Emotional vocabulary, phrasal verbs or expressions, structures.
  • Language for: Giving advice, opinion, express comprehension, ask, understand.
  • Language through: Audiovisual aids, asking about doubts.

4. Lessons

  • Lesson 1: Introduction to the project, vocabulary game.
  • Lesson 2: Introduction of the session, work in groups, feedback, and reflection.
  • Lesson 3: Oral presentation.

5. Assessment Criteria

  • Can the students understand the feedback made by teachers, and implement the advice received to improve their qualities?
  • Can the students make a great and critical self-assessment, using reflection?

6. Higher-Order and Lower-Order Thinking Skills

The first session of the unit will be done in order to learn vocabulary and some basics from the… It will also be a simple session so that the students can easily learn the content. It will include playing easy games where they will only need to understand and apply the rules that they will be given. (LOTS)

The second session will follow the same structure as the first one. Basic games that the students will be able to play with ease. Even though, we will include a final part where they will have to give an opinion and feedback about the session and their development in it. That will be to introduce some HOTS in the session because they will need to analyze and evaluate them both: session and development, and this will approach them as another step in their learning. (LOTS & a few HOTS)

Finally, the third session will consist of their ability to summarize the learnings that they hopefully acquired in the two previous sessions, but the objective here is to test their capacity and independence to develop their motivation and initiative. (HOTS)

7. Aids for Students

The first aid that we introduced in the… to help students understand the…

8. Scaffolding

Another help was to tell the students everything in the… that we looked for, to clarify the idea of the activity. Finally, we started the feedback with the students and we asked questions so that they could draw conclusions about their learning in the session.

9. Materials and Resources

For this session, we used different materials such as… We have also introduced different resources such as working on…

10. Evaluation of the Project

For the proper evaluation of the unit, we will use a rubric that will consist of grading some different aspects that we think are the most important to acquire. The grades will be POORLY, CORRECTLY, EXCELLENT and the following concepts are to evaluate:

  • Vocabulary Applied: The ability of the student to use the new vocabulary learned during the sessions.
  • Motivation: The student shows motivation towards the session and motivates/helps his colleagues.
