Essex Truck Tragedy: 39 Found Dead, Driver Arrested
British security forces discovered 39 bodies inside a truck in an industrial area of Essex County, England. The driver, a 25-year-old from Northern Ireland, has been arrested. Emergency services responded to an early warning in Grays and found the bodies upon opening the truck.
Investigators initially noted the vehicle entered through Wales, but later confirmed the trailer arrived at Purfleet from Zeebrugge, Belgium. The cargo arrived in Thurrock shortly after 00:30 hours and was transferred to another vehicle believed to have come from Northern Ireland.
“We are in the process of identifying the victims, but we believe it will be a lengthy process,” said Essex Police Chief Andrew Mariner. At least one adolescent is among the 39 victims. The truck driver remains in police custody, accused of murder. Investigators are working to clarify the truck’s route.
Brexit Debate: Johnson vs. Corbyn
The televised debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn focused on Brexit. Johnson hopes Parliament will approve his Exit Agreement for a clean exit on January 31st. Corbyn wants to renegotiate the agreement and hold a second referendum within six months.
Polls suggest Johnson’s plan is more likely to succeed, with conservatives leading. Interestingly, both Johnson and Corbyn are unpopular, with Corbyn facing even stronger opposition.
Cocaine Submarine Intercepted in Spain
A submarine carrying approximately 3,000 kilos of high-purity cocaine was intercepted off the coast of Aldán, Spain. Two people were arrested, while a third escaped. The submarine came from Latin America.
Authorities are working to refloat the 20-meter submarine, which sank on the beach of Hio. The operation involves the Civil Guard, National Police, and Tax Agency. Investigators are determining if the submarine sailed directly from South America or if the drugs were loaded at sea.
This novel drug transport system is common in America but rare in Europe.
