General Protection Boxes

1.2. Location and Installation

  • Installed on exterior building facades with free and permanent access.
  • Location determined by agreement between property owner and supplier.
  • May use low voltage fuse box or distribution transformer as general protective box if building houses these components.
  • For overhead connections, installed on surface at height of 3-4m.
  • For underground connections, installed in wall niche with metal door and degree of protection IK 10.
  • Bottom of door at least 30 cm above ground.
  • Niche must have holes for underground conduit entrance.
  • Location should be close to public distribution system and protected from other utilities.
  • If facade does not border public highway, box located at boundary between public and private property.
  • Maximum of two generic protection boxes per niche.
  • Electrician or installer must notify supplier before accessing connections.

1.2. Types and Features

  • Types listed in supplier’s technical specifications approved by public administration.
  • Fuses installed in drivers or polar phase with power to cut at least equal to short-circuit current.
  • Neutral with detachable connection to the left of the stage.
  • Connecting terminal for grounding if necessary.
  • Protection scheme depends on supply needs and type of power supply.
  • General protective boxes for underground power may have input and output of distribution line.
  • Meet requirements of UNE-EN 60,439 -1, UNE-EN 60,439 -3, UNE 20,324, and UNE-EN 50,102.
  • Degree of protection IP43 and IK 08.
  • Sealed.

Protection and Measurement Boxes

  • Used for supplies with a single or two users fed from the same place.
  • Combines protection and measurement equipment in a single element.

2.1. Location and Installation

  • Applies as described in paragraph 1.1.
  • Reading devices must be installed at a height between 0.7 m and 1.80 m.

2.2. Types and Features

  • Types listed in supplier’s technical specifications approved by public administration.
  • Meet requirements of UNE-EN 60,439 -1, UNE-EN 60,439 -3, UNE 20,324, and UNE-EN 50,102.
  • Degree of protection IP43 and IK09.
  • Sealed.
  • Envelope must have internal ventilation to prevent condensation.
  • Transparent reading material must be resistant to ultraviolet rays.
