1.6.2 INSTALLING ELECTRIC POWER AND LIGHTING

The electrical system adheres to the “Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulations (Decree 2413/1973 of Sept. 20 and Royal Decree 2295/1985 of 9 October)”. This regulation ensures safety, reliability, and standardization in electrical installations.

Key objectives of the regulation:

  1. Safety of people and property.
  2. Reliable operation for quality electricity supply.
  3. Standardization of power supplies for industrial efficiency.
  4. Optimized return on investment through consumption-based sizing.

The regulation is mandatory for new and expanding plants. Existing installations must comply if they pose safety risks or disrupt other facilities.

This industrial building is not classified as wet, dusty, or fire hazardous. The electrical installation will comply with the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulations and require approval from the general direction of energy.

1.6.3 FIRE AND EVACUATION

The emergency plan ensures a coordinated response to fires, minimizing consequences.

Objectives of the emergency plan:

  • Inform occupants for quick emergency response.
  • Train staff for effective emergency handling.
  • Provide knowledge of facilities, risks, and protection measures.
  • Ensure functionality of prevention and firefighting equipment.

The study focuses on fire prevention and protection of people and property. It is divided into three stages:

PREVENTION

Actions to prevent fire ignition and spread. Awareness among employees is crucial to avoid risks. Key prevention measures:

  • Identify materials and machines that pose fire hazards.
  • Maintain workplace order and cleanliness.
  • Ensure proper use and protection of electrical installations.

EVACUATION

The primary action is to protect people from fire. Clear and functional escape routes are essential. Exit routes must be clearly marked with standard signs.

EXTINCTION

Fire extinction requires adequate resources and trained employees. The fire regulations NBE-CPI/96 guide the activation of fire risk measures, considering factors such as:

  • Type of industrial activity (small general store in this case).
  • Volume occupied by the establishment.

Protection facilities include mobile extinguishers, fire hydrants, alarms, fixed extinguishing systems, and alarm buttons. Safety signs will comply with the UNE 23-034-88 standard.

Violations are classified as minor, serious, and very serious, with corresponding consequences for licensees, business owners, and those responsible for false certificates.

MOBILE EXTINGUISHERS

Details about mobile extinguishers

FIRE HYDRANTS FITTED (BIES)

Hydrants have a 45mm diameter and include:

  • Nozzle
  • Spear 45mm three positions
  • Synthetic hose 15m
  • Coupling
  • Valve seat 45 mm
  • Manometer pressure gauge 0 to 16 Kg
  • Support winder type, with capacity to hold 15m of hose
  • Metal cabinet
  • Crystal 3mm thick with inscription “IN CASE OF FIRE BREAK”

Hydrants are mounted on walls with specific spacing and distance requirements. All hydrants must have indicative signs.

16.3.2 FIRE DETECTION INSTALLATION

The UNE 23-077-77 standard governs fire detection systems. Equipment must provide clear signals, and each area requires warning signs and controls. Detectors are placed strategically based on fire risks and to avoid false alarms.

Detector placement guidelines:

  • One per 60 square meters for premises under 6 meters high.
  • One per 80 square meters for premises between 6 and 12 meters high.
  • One every 12 meters in corridors.
