Interview Insights: A Young Candidate’s Perspective
Good morning, take a seat, please.
Thank you.
I have carefully read your resume and I see you are a high school student.
Yes, I am currently taking the science program and I also hold a certificate as a leisure and free time counselor.
That’s fine. Why are you interested in this job?
I was highly motivated to apply for this job because I really enjoy spending my time with children and taking care of them. It would be a pleasure for me to get this job as a camp monitor.
What is your greatest strength?
I think my extroversion, creativity, and people skills are my greatest strengths.
Tell me a little bit about your previous working experience.
I have worked as a basketball trainer for 3 years.
If a child at the summer camp starts crying and tells you that he wants to go back to his parents, what would you do?
One of my main goals is to avoid anyone feeling bad or uncomfortable, so first of all, I would try to prevent this situation from happening. But if it does occur, I would speak with the child to find out what the problem is, then I would provide a solution to change his negative mindset, and I would do my best to ensure he feels comfortable and happy. If his final decision is that he wants to go back home due to an important issue and I can’t help, I would call his parents, and they would make the decision.
Interesting. That’s all. Thank you for getting in touch with us and for coming. Do you have any questions?
You’re welcome. Yes, I have one question: How will you let me know if I get the job or not?
We would notify you if you became a member of our team by mail or phone call. If you don’t receive anything in the next week, it unfortunately means that it has not been possible to offer you this opportunity.
Thank you for your time. I really appreciate this opportunity. I hope we can keep in touch in the future.
I hope so too. Good luck and have a good day.
Goodbye.
Good morning, nice to meet you.
Good morning, it’s nice to meet you too.
First of all, I’m Paula, and I will interview you today. I want you to tell me how you found us. Did a friend recommend us, did you find us on the internet, or was it through some advertisement?
Not really, I spent most of my summers here when I was a child.
That’s so interesting! Now I want to know some things about you. Tell me about yourself!
Well, I’m Martina, I’m 16 years old, I was born in Barcelona, and I’m here in London studying high school for the future.
What are your weaknesses and qualities? Tell me about them.
I think that my weak points are that sometimes I’m slow in completing my tasks compared to others because I really want to get things right. I will double or sometimes triple-check my lines so I have a clearer idea of what I need to do.
And now could you tell me some of your qualities, please?
Of course, I have team-building skills, I love working in groups, and I’m very social, maybe because I have a lot of patience.
That sounds great, Martina, but why did you leave your last job?
Well, last summer I worked as a waitress in a restaurant, and working in this hotel making kids’ summers better would be a great opportunity.
And last but not least, why do you think we should hire you?
As I told you earlier, I have a lot of great skills with kids, I’m a young person, and I have a lot of energy to do anything.
Okay, thank you. We will call you in a few days.
