Letter from London: Missing Home and New Experiences
Dear Paula,
I missed you so much during the holidays! London is incredibly different from Spain, and I’m not sure I’ll ever fully adjust. I’m relieved that my father’s job at the Spanish Embassy is only until June. I can’t wait to come home and spend the summer on the beach with you (assuming you’ll be in Spain, as usual!).
I’ve made some lovely friends here, but don’t worry, you’re irreplaceable as my best friend! I sometimes visit my friend Fiona after school. We share similar tastes in music and videos, just like you and I do. Fiona and I even have tickets to see Bon Jovi in concert next month – I wish you could join us!
Life here is quite different. Can you believe we have to wear a uniform to school? It’s dreadful: a blue skirt and blazer, a white blouse, a ridiculous checked tie, and long, white socks. Also, there’s not much to do in the evenings. Shops close around 4:30 PM, and pubs are only open until 11 PM.
That’s all for now. I need to start my English homework. We have to write an informal letter to a friend, and I’m struggling to begin! Please write back soon and tell me all your news. I miss you!
Love,
Sandra
Letter to Alex: Seeking Advice and Sharing Updates
Hello Alex,
How are you? Thank you for your letter; I was happy to receive it. My family is doing well. My father has a new job, and my sister is in England studying English Studies. I’m currently in high school here in Castellon.
My grades are generally good, but I’m having a serious problem with math. I’ve failed all three exams and I’m starting to worry. I would really appreciate your advice on how to handle this. What do you think I should do?
On a lighter note, I enjoy spending time with my friends, which helps me forget about my problems. I also love watching football matches every Sunday, especially Real Madrid. What’s your favorite team?
I hope your family is well, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Goodbye,
Raul Bou
