Key Terms for Social Work
Empathy: Ability to understand and share feelings.
Active Listening: Way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding.

Observation: Technique of gathering information that basically consists of observing.
Assertiveness: Shows that you respect yourself because you are willing to stand up for your beliefs.

Working with Unaccompanied Minors
The main goal of working with unaccompanied minors (menores) is the acquisition of resources (recursos) and skills aimed at the total autonomy (autonomía) and emancipation (emancipación) of young people.
That is why a socio-educational and socio-labor accompaniment (acompañamiento) is carried out. First of all, it is necessary to reduce the language barrier (barrera linguistica) and offer them educational resources (recursos) to facilitate social integration (integración social).
In the end, by the time the legal age is reached, the aim is to obtain a work permit (permiso de trabajo) and a job, necessary elements for an optimal socioeconomic situation and group integration.
