Life in Bedford and Almeria: Personal Stories and Local Insights

A Close Friend’s Life in Bedford

I’m going to describe one of my best friends, Mode. He’s 36 years old. While all his family lives in Spain, he resides in Bedford, just north of London. He has a younger sister, and his parents are very funny, just like the rest of his family. He hasn’t studied, but he works at one of the most famous supermarkets in England. Mode is a quite sociable, very clever, and hard-working person. He loves dogs and hopes to have a baby in a year because he’s responsible. In his free time, he enjoys going to the cinema with his wife, playing the drums, watching TV, and he’s also a fan of watching football and, of course, traveling. The only problem with Mode is that he’s a bit untidy and very impatient, but I’m sure he will be tidier with his future family. I think that I will always love him anyway.

Email from Almeria

Hi Ana, I’m really sorry for not writing earlier, but I’ve been exhausted since I got back! Thanks for a wonderful six months. I loved being in Bedford, and I had a great time. I also think my English got a bit better. It was so nice to look after Perry and Jade. I thought they were hilarious, and I think we had a fantastic time together. I have really good memories, for example, our trip to Camden Town and Hyde Park with the squirrels. I have been a bit overwhelmed these last few weeks because I’ve started studying at the Academy while I look for a proper job to pay for my studies. Not having money is very hard, and I hope to find a job soon to afford to rent an apartment with Ana and two other friends. I have had several messages from Perry and Jade since I’ve been back! Please tell them from me that I miss them and that I’ll send them some photos very soon. That’s all for now. Thanks again for everything. And I hope you know you’re welcome in Almeria at any time – my family would love to meet you. Summer here is usually lovely. Hope to hear from you soon. Give my regards to Matt! Best wishes, Jose. PS: I’ve attached a photo I took of me with the kids. I hope you like it!

Transportation Challenges in My Southern Spanish Town

I live in a beautiful ancient town in the south of Spain called [Town Name]. [Town Name] is a very quiet, small town where we can live agreeably; however, there are some problems. One of the problems in my town is public transport. In [Town Name], there are only a few public buses, and you cannot know when they will arrive where you are waiting, so you cannot take the bus when you are in a hurry. Also, the buses only work until nine o’clock. It is true that [Town Name] is a small town; therefore, you can go on foot to all places, and it takes you about 45 minutes to walk across the town. But if you cannot walk, sometimes you will need to take a taxi, but taxis are very expensive, and there are no taxis at night. For this reason, whenever you need transport at night, you have a problem. In addition, there aren’t cycle lanes; therefore, going by bike can be dangerous. Many people go to work by car; hence the traffic can be awful at rush hour. Also, [Town Name]’s streets are usually narrow, and driving in the old quarter can be very difficult. In my opinion, the local politicians should worry about this problem rather than putting more buses and several cycle lanes. But they are worried about other themes.
