Luces de Bohemia: Scene-by-Scene Synopsis
Scene One. It begins at the house of Max Estrella, a blind writer steeped in poverty, who is married to Madame Collet. Max comes home from Latino, Don Híspalis star, who is responsible for selling their works. Latino explains to Max that he has been deceived by Zarathustra, the shop owner. This makes Max angry and he chooses to go see Zarathustra.
Scene Two. Max and Latino arrive at the store, where the scene unfolds. Zarathustra cheats Max and a discussion starts. In the midst of this comes Don Gay, who is a writer of chronicles just arrived from London. The discussion strays from its main theme and they end up talking about travel, religion, politics, and the disadvantages of Spain.
Scene Three. The scene is in the tavern at Pica Lagartos, where Harriet reaches Pisa. A girl convinces Max to buy him a lottery ticket. Max is willing to pawn his coat to buy it. From outside come voices of protest against thieves and Citizen Action.
Scene Four. Max and Latino, drunk, are walking down the street, entering a cafe where are Gadex, Dorio, Clarinito, and Perez, who support and praise Max, perhaps ironically. They start a discussion about intellectual things, poetry, and works of literature. Max begins a series of warmly insults towards other poets. As the scandal was riding and drunkenness increased, Max is arrested by guards.
Scene Five. In this scene, Max gets to the Ministry of the Interior, where Serafin Bonito is. Max gets to say silly things and shouting, imprison him despite the protests of the modernists to support him.
Scene Sixth. In prison, Max gets to speak with another prisoner, a Catalan worker. The only solution proposed for Spain is to destroy wealth and make a revolution. Max agrees, but it’s time for the prisoner, who was sentenced to death, to leave. Max cries of helplessness and is finally left alone in the cell.
Scene Seventh. The modernists are at the newspaper The People to find a solution to Max’s incident, but the paper refused. Time passes in a conversation between Don Filiberto and the modernists. Finally, the manager tells them they can talk to the Government for Max is free.

Scene Nine. Latino, Max, and Ruben Dario meet Columbus in the cafe, dine together, and talk about God, the church, and the Bible. Ruben believes in it, but Max thinks it’s stupid, that there is life after death. Ruben recites one of his verses and they continue drinking.
Scene Ten. Max and Latino out of coffee and meet some prostitutes who were on the road and start a conversation. Latino is going with one of them, as Max talks to the other. This causes him temptation, but Max does not fall into temptation.
Scene Eleventh. Max and Latino are walking down the street, where they find an uproar and a desperate woman screaming with her dead child in her arms. The woman is distraught and calls for justice and his own death. Latino think that exaggerating and Max thinks it’s a great injustice, the scene ends with the lament of Max, his burden and again his impotence. And she thinks her time has come.
Scene Twelfth. Max and Latino arrives outside his house, Max is lying, and sleeping Latino think this is going drunkenness and carrying her purse, finds a neighbor Max, who was not asleep, but dead.
Scene Thirteenth. The wake of Max, are Madame Collet, Claudinita and modernists, Madame Collet Max thinks his life has died as a bohemian, and his bad life. Then comes Latino, drunk and begins to tell the dead praise and nonsense, also comes a friend of Max, Soulinake Basilio, who thinks that Max is not dead, but suffers a state of catalepsy. Finally comes the driver and takes Max.
Scene Fourteenth. Funeral of Max, where among others Rubén Darío and the Marquis de Bradomin, a character in the Sonatas Valle? Inclán, and talk about how unfair the death of the poet. Ruben was somewhat optimistic in contrast to the Marquis pessimistic. Just saying goodbye and walking away from the cemetery.
