The Four Basic Functions of Administration
Administration involves four basic functions:
- Planning: Define in advance what you want to accomplish in the future. Identify alternatives to achieve this, and choose the best one. Define objectives, goals, policies, and standards for the future. What should be done? Where? When? What? (P)
- Organization: Define the structure of the company, including roles, hierarchy, the type of activities to be performed, and who should run them. Who will? With what authority? In what environment? (O)
- Management and Implementation: Actions taken by control orders, instructions, coordination of materials, motivation, and guidance systems, making the employee wish to do their work willingly and with enthusiastic cooperation. (DE)
- Control: Corroborate, verify, confirm, or see if the planned target is carried out properly, and take corrective measures if appropriate. (C)

Importance and Role of Management
Administration meets multiple needs, given the dynamics and characteristics of the times and the needs of joint work that distinguishes humanity.
It constitutes a necessary process for all collective efforts, whether public or private, civilian or military, large or small. Although in each case the process may vary depending on the features that are present, the adaptability to changing circumstances is where the administrative principles have their scientific evidence and universality.
Importance of Administration
- An important factor in the development of a country. Great nations have skillful and intelligent administrators.
- Effectively uses available resources to satisfy needs.
- Achievement of Objectives: gives effect to human efforts.
- Becomes effective: Human coordinating efforts so that individual efforts are translated into social achievements.
- By improving the efficiency of human and material resources, it increases a country’s cultural level.
- It offers great opportunities because they have a bright future. There is an increasingly clear need for people who possess skills and management skills.
- There is a broad field to choose a career and develop talent and ability.
Administration is found from the simplest to the most complex. It is present in all human activities. The special characteristic of man management is the need to live in a group, which extends to all areas of the human sphere. It is based on the achievement of social activities.
Management Features
- Administration remains one purpose: to achieve the objectives proposed or planned.
- Notably, it is a means to exert a real impact on human life; it brings about changes in human life, and all these social changes have an impact.
- It is usually associated with the efforts of a group: it is not individually but in groups that work together and organizes.
- Is achieved by and through the efforts of others: a sense of group.
- It is an activity, not a person or group of persons.
- Administrative effectiveness requires the use of certain knowledge, attitudes, and practices.
- It is intangible: the present, there is, especially when there is mismanagement that leads to failure. Is present, it feels at the time that a fault arises.
- Those who practice it are not necessarily the owners.
Administration is not superseded or replaced by the computer but helped by it. The auditor gives the items to the computer to get a result.
