1.2 Question Forms

  • Question Words:
    • How: Much, often, many, long
    • What: Kind, time
    • Where, When, Who, Why, Which
  • Auxiliary Verbs (Do-Does-Did) and Verb To Be (Am-Is-Are-Was-Were): Before the subject
  • Prepositions (To-With): At the end
  • Main Verb: In infinitive without ‘to’ (e.g., play)

1.3 Adverbs of Frequency

  1. Always
  2. Nearly always, most days
  3. Usually
  4. Often
  5. Sometimes
  6. Once or twice a day/week, every now and then, occasionally
  7. Hardly ever, rarely
  8. Never
  • Goes before the main verb. (e.g., He always listens…)
  • Goes after the verb ‘to be’. (e.g., He’s never worried…)
  • Goes after the auxiliary verb (Do-Does) in a negative sentence.
  • ‘Sometimes’ can go at the beginning or the end of a sentence. (e.g., He runs most days.)
  • Play: Golf, basketball, football, computer games, cards, chess
  • Do: Yoga, karate, exercise, aerobics
  • Go: Clubbing, on Facebook, out for a meal/coffee, camping, to the gym, running, for a walk

1.4 Nouns and Verbs with the Same Form

  • Make: A film, a record, a promise, a plan
  • Have: A look, experience, a dream, a plan
  • Take: A photograph, a look
  • Write: A blog, a post, a text

1.5 Weather

  • Hot, cloudy, humid: 33 degrees
  • Cloudy, mild: 14 degrees
  • Sunny, dry, pleasant: 21 degrees
  • Cold, damp, a few showers (rain): 9 degrees
  • Heavy rain, a thunderstorm: 12 degrees
  • Light snow, temperature below zero: -3 degrees
  • Seasons: Winter, spring, summer, autumn

1.6 Likes and Dislikes
