Mastering Outlook Express: Interface and Features
Outlook Express Basics
1. Outlook Express Basics Once you have configured a mail account, you can run Outlook Express, either from the shortcut icon on the desktop or from the Start button → Programs → Outlook Express. When you run Outlook Express, the window will appear as follows:
The fundamental parts of this window have been marked with red squares and numbered from 1 to 6. The following describes each of these six areas:
Title Bar: This is the title of the application or function that is being used.
Menu Bar: Contains all the commands or functions of the program in drop-down menus.
Toolbar (or Buttons): Contains the most frequently used commands.
Area Folders: Contains the folders in which messages are stored (received, sent, drafts, etc.).
Area Information: Shows the contents of the folder selected in Area 4. It also provides access to additional options (like “email search”) and informs you about the status of your mail (e.g., if you have unread messages).
Status Bar: Similar to the status bar of any window. It displays the number of messages in the selected folder (Area 4), message status (read and unread), etc., and usually shows a short description of the commands contained in the menu bar.
