A Near-Drowning Experience in Morocco
Nine years ago, during my annual vacation to Morocco, I had a frightening experience at the beach. I go to Morocco every year, and this trip started like any other.
One day, my parents, my brothers, and I went to the beach, bringing along a large inflatable float. We were enjoying ourselves, playing with the float, when our cousin joined us. The game was simple: my cousin would push my brother and me, on the float, out into the sea. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. We suddenly realized that all three of us were on the float, too far out, and our feet couldn’t touch the bottom. We were unable to swim back.
Panic set in. We called out to my father for help, but he was too far away to hear us.
Finally, my father noticed our distress and immediately alerted the lifeguard. Together, they were able to reach us and bring us safely back to shore. It was a terrifying experience, made even more unsettling by the realization that everyone on the beach had been watching.
Fortunately, it ended up being just a scare, but it’s a memory, and a lesson, that I hope never to repeat.
The Evolution of Language: Loanwords
My stance on whether languages should incorporate words from other languages (loanwords) is nuanced; it depends on how you look at it.
On the one hand, I believe it’s beneficial. The inclusion of new words enriches our language, expanding our vocabulary and making it more diverse. You could even argue that many languages are already a blend of influences from various sources throughout history.
- Pro: Enriched vocabulary and greater diversity.
- Pro: Reflects the historical evolution of languages.
On the other hand, I see potential drawbacks. Significantly altering a language’s vocabulary can be detrimental. Language, in my opinion, is a crucial part of a country’s identity, and each country should have its own distinct language and vocabulary. Furthermore, incorporating variations of existing words can make learning a language even more challenging.

- Con: Increases the complexity of language learning.
In conclusion, I believe that incorporating words from other languages can be positive, but it should be done in moderation to avoid drastically altering the core character of the language.
