Post-War Transformations

The Consolidation of Peace (1919-1929)
The Democracies after the First World War, not all countries were recovered in the same way:
- Germany: Which had proclaimed the Weimar Republic, lived a difficult economic situation due to the payment of war reparations and monetary superinflation, and a political situation is also difficult, as a result of the revolutionary attempts of extremist parties. However, between 1925 and 1929 there was some economic recovery and a temporary consolidation of democracy.
- France and the UK: There was a serious crisis which involved adjustment going from a war economy to peace, which resulted in a dramatic increase in unemployment. The British Empire transformed into a community of independent nations, the Commonwealth. In the late 1920s, France and Britain began to recover.
- United States: Was the country most benefited by the war and victory. Enjoyed a tremendous economic boom in the 1920s, helped by trade protectionism against Europe and immigration restriction. This was consolidated as a world power.
Decolonization
The main causes of the emancipation of former colonies and the formation of new independent states were:
- European weakness after the Second World War.
- The development of nationalist movements among indigenous minorities westernized colony.
- The favorable attitude towards the decolonization of the U.S. and the USSR.
- The proclamation by the UN of the right of self-determination of all peoples.
There were some conflicts such as the Vietnam War and the Middle East conflict.
