Residential Complex Lighting Upgrade in Castro Urdiales
Background
We propose a project to improve the lighting electrical installation of a residential complex. This project aims to optimize the lighting in the complex’s recreational areas, including gardens, tennis courts, and the pool, to achieve greater energy savings. The complex is located in Castro Urdiales, a coastal town in Cantabria, known for its tourism and proximity to Bilbao. The area comprises 4000m², with an 800m² built area, landscaped lawns, trees, a 12×6 community pool, two 23×8 tennis courts, and residential parking. See map (3.2)
Project Objective
This document contains all necessary information, plans, drawings, budget estimates, and studies. The installation will comply with electronic low-voltage regulations, including:
- RD 2135/80 of 26/9/80, on Industrial Liberation 19/12/80, and related Order.
- Electrotechnical Regulation for industrial concentrations (Decree 2413/1973 of 20 September) and MIE-BT Additional Instructions, including Order of 31 October 1973, and successive orders (19/12/77, 28/7/80, 30/9/80, 13/1/88).
Location and Site
The residential area is in a quiet location, 2 km from the beaches of Castro Urdiales and Mion, 1 km from Eroski Mall, and 3 km from the town center. It is 30 km from Bilbao (Guggenheim) and 70 km from Santander.
Address: Street / Menendez Pelayo
Postal Code: 39700
Access is via the first exit south of Castro Urdiales, direction Santander, on the A1 motorway. The complex is located on the A-634 national road.

Project Details
The project involves optimizing lighting in each area of the complex: See map (3.1).
- Installation of garden area lighting.
- Installation of sports area lighting (tennis and pool).
System Classification and Characteristics
Power System
The rated voltage is AC 400/230V with a maximum of 1810W, a rated current of 8.6A, and the facility is linked to CGP.
Distribution System
The processing center will be located 100m from the box through underground channels.
Drivers
Copper with PVC insulation, identified according to MIE BT-023: Phases (black, brown, gray), Neutral (Light Blue), Protection (Yellow-green).
Switchboards
Command and protection devices are located near the individual derivation entrance. The ICP is installed in a separate box. Each circuit’s devices are in separate, protected notebooks: one IGA IV 40A, one 32A DIF IV, three INT.DIF II 32A, one PIA IV, and six PIA II. See map (3.1).
Protections
Overvoltage (surge protectors), overcurrent (magneto-thermal), and direct/indirect contact (differential) protections.
Circuits
Access
Halogen lamps at the main entrance steps will be replaced with 3 LEDs. Precautions are needed as halogen lamps get very hot.
Interior Garden
Consists of 2 record boxes and 6 lampposts (5m high), operated by twilight detectors. Boxes are underground and protected against moisture and sabotage. The circuit is protected by a 16A, 6mm² PIA II.
Outdoor Garden
Consists of 6 lamps lighting the parking area, each with record boxes. Luminaires are five 400w lamps on 5m columns, installed on concrete, underground, and protected against moisture and sabotage. The circuit is protected by a 16A, 6mm² PIA II.
Pools
Illuminated by dual 1000w focus lights on a rectangular plate, controlled by a timer, and placed 7m from the ground. The circuit is protected by a 16A, 6mm² PIA II.
Tennis Courts
Lighting by high-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamps, metal halide for optimal illumination above 300 lux, suitable for recreational and professional levels. Six lamps with record boxes are installed at 7m intervals, operated by a key switch. The circuit is protected by a PIA IV with a 10mm² driver.
