Sample Letters: Fun Run, Complaint, and Reality TV
An Informal Email
Hi there,
How’s it going? I haven’t heard from you for ages!
Well guess what? I’m taking part in a Gorilla Fun Run in September! Ellie’s doing it too. We’re going to run for seven kilometres around London dressed up as gorillas, and the sponsorship money we raise will go to a charity which helps save the world’s last remaining gorillas. It’s going to be great – it’s a really good cause, and it’ll force us to get fit as well.
I know that you took part in the London Marathon last year, and I was wondering if you could give us some advice about the best way to get fit for the run. I’d also love to hear your news.
Well, I’d better go. Dad wants me to help him out in the garden.
Take care,
Jimmy
Complaint Letter
To whom it may concern,
I am writing in order to complain about a product which I purchased in your shop on 15th April this year.
On the recommendation of your sales assistant, I bought a Yuja XB video game console for 360 pounds. I was told that the console was a popular item with your customers. I had actually planned to buy a cheaper model, but I was led to believe that the Yuja had the latest cutting-edge features.
Unfortunately, this video game console is faulty. It constantly crashes, it is quite slow, and it does not save my game progress. In addition, even if I charge it overnight, it has to be charged again after only one hour of use.
I would appreciate a full refund. In addition, I suggest that you inspect the other consoles in your shop, so that customers won’t have the same experience that I had.
I look forward to your prompt reply.
Reality TV Shows: Good Entertainment?
Reality shows are a very popular form of entertainment on TV nowadays. There are dozens of different types of programmes such as singing contests, cooking competitions, or going to live in the jungle. But sometimes the experience can be positive and sometimes negative.
First, I think that reality TV shows have a lot of positive aspects. People at home can choose which types of programmes they want to watch depending on what they are interested in. Some people like watching singing or cooking competitions while others prefer watching programmes about building houses or travelling around the world. In addition, reality TV programmes are a great opportunity to discover talented singers, dancers, or chefs. Several people who take part in these programmes get jobs as a result of being on TV. Another advantage is that the people on the shows have interesting experiences and meet new people.
On the other hand, some people think that reality TV is an easy way for them to become famous without much effort.
Therefore, most successful singers, actors, or chefs who have worked really hard to get a name are against these shows. Also, sometimes the people on the shows have to do really difficult or dangerous things. The competitions are very hard and sometimes even humiliating for the contestants. Another disadvantage worth mentioning is that some programmes always follow the same format, and this can be quite boring to watch.
In conclusion, I believe that reality TV is good entertainment. There is lots of variety which means there is something for everyone, and they are interesting to watch.
