Silvia’s Parisian Film Adventure: A Story of Friendship

Laura, the narrator, recounts the experiences of her friend Silvia, starting from when Silvia announces she’s going to Paris to film a movie. Laura, Silvia, and Irene are three 16-year-old girls living in Getafe, Spain. Silvia, an aspiring actress, met a young director named Andre that summer, who chose her as the protagonist of his film.

Before Silvia’s departure for France, the three friends gathered at their usual park to say goodbye. They promised to reunite at least once a year to spend an afternoon together. The next day, Silvia left for Paris.

In her letters, Silvia described how wonderful Paris was and how beautiful the shooting locations were. She also wrote about her cozy apartment, shared with a slightly strange but very nice and pleasant actress named Ariane. She spoke highly of Andre, the director, and the luxurious places he took her to for dinner. In her last letter, she mentioned the scene featuring the film’s actual protagonist.

Meanwhile, Laura and Irene started dressing alike and reading the same books. Laura even focused more on her studies. Laura had a neighbor, Roberto, whose invitations she always rejected because she didn’t like him. One day, she ran into Roberto and, noticing something different about him, greeted him.

For a while, Laura and Irene didn’t receive any letters from Silvia, which worried them. They visited Silvia’s parents, who, appearing somewhat tired, assured them that they spoke with Silvia daily and that she was fine, just a little tired from work. They mentioned that Silvia would return to Getafe for Christmas. That day, Laura’s brother mentioned receiving a letter from Silvia. Laura, unable to resist, entered her brother’s room to read the letter, hoping for an explanation for Silvia’s silence, but found no answers.

The next day, the phone rang at Laura’s house. Minutes later, Laura, Silvia, and Irene were reunited.

Silvia’s Return

Silvia began to explain her silence and sudden return to Getafe. After filming on the Champs-Élysées, the weather worsened, forcing them to stop and change scenes. Everyone was upset, especially the director.

One day, while Silvia and Ariane were home, Ariane’s brother, Eric, arrived. Thanks to Silvia, Eric could stay with them for some time while working towards college. As the days passed, the filming situation deteriorated. Chantal, a more recognized actress, took advantage of the situation and secured more lines in the movie. Silvia felt increasingly worse, and Andre, once candid, now screamed at her and ridiculed her in front of everyone during a kissing scene with Michael.

The next day, Eric gave Silvia a book, and Andre, to apologize, sent a bouquet of flowers, which later led to a dinner invitation that she couldn’t refuse. That night, after returning from dinner, Andre tried to assault Silvia. However, Eric appeared and threatened Andre, allowing Silvia to escape. She returned to the apartment, where Eric arrived minutes later.

Ariane and Silvia went to the set to film the last scene. Silvia performed well on the first take, but Andre insisted she drop the strap of her gown, which Silvia refused. After several shouts from Andre, Silvia turned, said goodbye, and left. The next day, realizing she had nothing left to do in Paris, she packed her bags, left a note for Ariane and another for Eric with her phone number, and departed.

After asking a few more details, Laura and Irene went home, happy. On the porch, Laura met Roberto, and without hesitation, she accepted his invitation to go to the movies and then grab a bite to eat.
