Telecommuting and Modern Work Trends
Telecommuting and the Modern Workplace
A – The cartoon represents teleworking, or the concept of the home office, specifically in a bedroom. The usual bedroom items are replaced by work materials. This can also represent workaholism, as we see a couple working from bed.

The main reasons for the changes in the world of work are not only recession but also the expectations from a new generation of workers, which have changed the way we work.
Nowadays, the world of work has really changed. We can now work from home using our computers. We have flexible schedules, meaning that we can choose when to work. Long-term, permanent jobs are no longer the only option, and the number of unemployed people is increasing.
With workplace flexibility, we can choose to work where it’s best for us. If we travel somewhere, we can work from our computer. Even if we want to stay at home and still work, we can do it. We can choose to live near our family, and if necessary, we can relocate to a new city without having to lose our job.
The main inconvenience of entrepreneurship is that most entrepreneurs don’t hire other workers. Therefore, they don’t create a significant number of jobs, which means they don’t play an important role in boosting the economy.
New workers expect lifestyle and at-work perks, which probably weren’t available years ago. They want the ability to balance work and life.

Living vs. Surviving
I think it’s clear: living and surviving are not the same, and that’s what this statement is about.
There are a lot of people who have full lives without a family and a job. Even being unemployed, they can consider themselves happy. They may not have a job, but they live their lives as it should be lived, at least in their own way. However, on the other hand, there are people who have a job or a career, sometimes a successful one, but who are not happy. They don’t live life as it should be lived, and they don’t follow their dreams.
And I think dreaming and trying to achieve those dreams is what makes us feel alive. We only need a job to survive, and more than that, we’ve got to live.
