Drucker defines an organization as a group of people working together on a common task. It is purposefully designed (unlike society or family) and intended to endure.

Approaches to Understanding Organizations

An approach is a way of organizing knowledge. This knowledge is partial and relative.

Internal and External Observations

Internal observations vary among individuals within the organization.

External observations are influenced by the ever-changing environment. The timing of the analysis shapes the perspective.

Beliefs and prejudices also influence observations.

Conditioning Factors

Organizations are constantly influenced by both internal and external factors. Before addressing internal aspects, it’s crucial to analyze the environmental factors affecting development. Understanding the context in which an organization operates allows for anticipating events.

Almost all organizations are subordinate to larger entities. It’s essential to recognize the boundaries between the internal and external environment.

An organization’s interaction with its external environment is complex, involving multiple relationships among actors in the market and society.

The market society is where the exchange of goods and services for profit occurs. The actors are members of society with commercial roles.
