He phoned Kemal to ask for help. They met in the American Bar at the Park Hotel.

Where Did Tom Expect to Stay?

He expected to stay at the Park Hotel, but he stayed at the Ankara Hotel because it was cheaper.

How Long Had Angela Been in Istanbul?

She had been in Istanbul for two months.

How Did Tom Travel from the Airport?

First, he traveled by bus from the airport to the new part of the city. Then, he took a taxi to the Park Hotel. This is what Angela told Tom to do.

What Did Mr. Dünya Give Tom?

Mr. Dünya gave Tom two cards, each with a telephone number. One was Mr. Dünya’s number, and the other was Mr. Pennington’s, the man in the British Consulate who made all the arrangements for Angela’s funeral.

How Was Angela’s Body Identified?

It was difficult to identify Angela’s body because it was quite burned. However, they found her handbag near the car. In the handbag, they found her passport and some papers from the car rental company. She had hired a car to go to Bursa for the weekend.

The Moment at the Wall in the Courtyard

There was a wall near Mr. Dünya’s workshop. It wasn’t very high, but it was necessary for Tom and Kemal to climb it to reach the other side, where there was another building in the courtyard. They climbed it and jumped to the other side. They discovered Mr. Dünya’s real business: smuggling opium in table lamps. They couldn’t return because they were arrested while climbing the wall to escape.

Tom’s Conversation with Julie

Julie knew where Tom was staying, at the Ankara Hotel. She rang Tom, and they met at the American Bar. She wasn’t convinced about the story of the accident. She was a good friend of Angela’s. She knew that Angela was happy with her job and with Mr. Dünya. However, sometime later, she noticed that Angela was nervous and worried about something at work, but Angela didn’t say anything. One day, Julie and Angela were having lunch at a restaurant when Mr. Dünya suddenly appeared. Julie saw that Angela was nervous and afraid. Apart from this, Julie knew that Angela had been ill with a serious virus. After this, Julie didn’t see Angela again, but she heard about the accident.

Why Did Tom Disguise Himself?

Tom pretended to leave Istanbul. He told Mr. Dünya about it. However, he stayed in Istanbul at Kemal’s flat. After this, Kemal gave him a wig, a false mustache, and dark glasses. Nobody had to recognize Tom because it was supposed that he had left Istanbul.

Two Key Phrases

  • “That, I think,” Tom said to Kemal, pointing at a block of offices. This occurred when Kemal and Tom were driving Kemal’s car, following the same route as the bus Tom took from the airport. They arrived at the point where Tom saw Angela leaving with two men and entering a building, which was a block of offices (doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.).
  • “After all this, do you know what I want?” Tom wants dull and uninteresting holidays.

Book Review: Meet Me in Istanbul

“Meet Me in Istanbul” is an exciting book with an interesting story. The vocabulary is not difficult, and the plot is quite easy to understand, but the story is not boring. The best part for me is the end when Mr. Dünya, his men, and Kemal and Tom are driving to Mr. Dünya’s villa. The conversation in the car is really interesting. Kemal is my favorite character in the book. From the beginning, we know that he is a good young man, and then he tries to help Tom find his fiancée. I liked “Meet Me in Istanbul,” so I would recommend it to young people who are learning English and like exciting stories.

Another Book Review: Meet Me in Istanbul

In my opinion, “Meet Me in Istanbul” is a good book. It is entertaining from beginning to end, with a beautiful story, descriptions of real places in Istanbul, and exciting parts. I really liked when Tom and Kemal jump the wall to go to the courtyard, and they discover Mr. Dünya’s second business. They are caught, but they know the truth about the smuggling and Angela. My favorite character is Kemal, Tom’s new friend, who helps him with the mystery of Angela. I enjoyed “Meet Me in Istanbul,” and I recommend it to teenagers like me because it’s an interesting book.
