Veeam Backup & Replication: Key Concepts and Configurations
Veeam Backup & Replication: Key Concepts
Backup Job Configuration:
- A Backup Administrator configures a copy job. Options include: One backup file per VM, or one backup file for all backup jobs.
- A Backup Administrator has restored a VM. The recovery process should be: Migrate to production.
- If a backup job is started while another is running, the backup job will fail immediately.
- The most appropriate setting for backup jobs is to run continuously.
- A Backup Administrator must perform a level of recovery. Options include: Backup SQL and enable application processing.
- A Backup Administrator needs to create a fully functional VM copy. They should use a VM Copy Job or a SureBackup Job.
- To create an offsite backup configuration, mount the NFS Backup Repository.
- For an optimal offsite backup job configuration, use at least two backup repositories at the remote site.
- A scale-out backup repository full backup can be: Always the same as the previous full backup or an extent determined by free space.
VM and Network Operations:
- To minimize network utilization when restoring a VM, restore it up-front from a backup and then perform a failback.
- After a successful replica failover, you should use the “Undo Failover” option.
- After selecting Incremental backups, disable synthetic full backups and active full backups.
- After a Failover, the following options are available: Failback, Permanent Failover, and Undo failover.
